Adherence to essential chronic medications can improve health outcomes and reduce overall health care costs. Together with Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital, CVS Caremark has undertaken a multi-year research initiative.

Advancing Adherence and the Science of Pharmacy Care Volume 2

As a pharmacy innovation company, CVS Caremark is interested in learning why patients behave the way they do when it comes to taking, or not taking, their prescription medication. The company launched a research collaboration with Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital focused on the topic of adherence. This publication summarizes the 20 published articles resulting from the collaboration so far.

State of the States: Adherence Report

This report shows how people in all 50 states are complying with their doctor's directions about taking medications. The report looks at adherence measures for four common chronic diseases: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and depressions. Please approach this information with a sense of curiosity and engage in the dialogue about why people don't take medications. Working together we can find innovative ways to engage patients and improve their adherence to deliver better outcomes and reduce health care costs.

Our goal is to build a comprehensive body of research about medication non-adherence and to ultimately help identify innovative ways health care professionals can address this public health problem.
