Paula: Retail Pharmacist
“Helping people on their path to better health.” Paula Monk, who has been with the company for eight years, is no stranger to this idea.
Recently the 43 year-old retail pharmacist, based near Atlanta, leapt into action to help a customer’s baby who had turned blue while having a febrile seizure – right in front of her pharmacy counter.
“‘My baby’s not breathing!’ is all I heard,” said Monk. And apparently it was all she needed to hear, because after calling 911 she performed CPR on the infant. While the baby landed in the hospital and was thankfully fine, Monk landed in the local newspaper for her heroic actions.
And although she isn’t a literal hero every day of the week, the former high school cheerleader prides herself on being the “hometown” pharmacist who is trusted by her hundreds of patients, most of whom she knows by name.
As for working at CVS Caremark and the fact that she is employed by a company that is reinventing pharmacy, she said, “When I started in this profession, where we now are with our technology and systems and patient relationships, it’s really what I hoped pharmacy care would become.”
