Dawn Martin: Human Resources Business Partner
Dawn Martin had already been working for “a great company” when she decided to take a new job at CVS Caremark. She thought the work culture couldn’t possibly be better than that of her previous employer – but she was wrong.
“It’s a fast-paced environment, but fun, and I really like that,” said Martin, who works in Human Resources for CVS Casemark in Winston-Salem. “But what is most impressive about the culture of this company is that everyone is really engaged and empowered to truly care about our colleagues and our customers.”
Martin, who has worked for CVS Caremark for six years, helps employees with various human resources issues and said her job requires a high degree of empathy and caring, and the ability to “lift the spirits” of those who call on her for assistance.
“Sometimes our colleagues are faced with terribly challenging life events, such as a terminal illness in the family, and they need someone on the other end of the phone who will truly listen to them and help them maintain a work/life balance,” said Martin. “I constantly ask myself when I am assisting someone, ‘How would I want to be treated?’ "
Martin also helps colleagues figure out what the next steps are in their careers at CVS Caremark, an element of her job description she says is the most rewarding. “When I find someone who wants to go further, wants to discover what the next level is for them here, I lock arms with them,” Martin added. “And when they succeed, I am filled with a tremendous sense of pride, and thankful that I work at a company that values their employees and allows me to do such meaningful work.”
